Offense aplenty in Pierre Post 8 Jr Legion's 14-9 loss to Sioux Falls West

Pierre Post eight Jr Legion fell 14-9 to Sioux Falls West in seven innings on Tuesday at Hyde Stadium-Pierre despite racking up 12 hits and nine runs.

 

Bradley Dean racked up two RBIs on three hits for Pierre Post eight Jr Legion. He singled in the first, second, and fourth innings.

 

Jalen Boyd got the win for Sioux Falls West despite allowing nine runs over six innings. Boyd struck out two, walked three and gave up 12 hits.

Sioux Falls West hammered Pierre Post eight Jr Legion pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 14 hits, eight RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Dean was charged with the loss. He lasted just four innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

Sioux Falls West stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring five runs on an RBI double by Evan Rasmusson, a groundout by Luke Merrill, an RBI single by Sam Hoekstra, and a two-run triple by Connor Hurley.

Sioux Falls West added five more runs in the top of the second. A single by Rasmusson ignited the offense,, bringing home Luke Fritsch and Austin Wise. That was followed up by Charlie Illg's double, plating Rasmusson.

Two runs in the bottom of the second helped Pierre Post eight Jr Legion close its deficit to 10-6. A wild pitch and a steal of home by Nathan Zimmerman set off Pierre Post eight Jr Legion rally. But, Boyd got Michael Lusk to fly out to end the inning.

Three runs in the bottom of the fourth helped Pierre Post eight Jr Legion close its deficit to 10-9. An RBI single by Dean, an RBI single by Hunter Jockheck, and an RBI single by Lusk gave Pierre Post eight Jr Legion life. Boyd ended the inning by getting Joe King to strike out.

Sioux Falls West piled on three more runs in the top of the seventh. Brandon Bartling kicked things off with a single, scoring Illg. That was followed up by Hurley's single, bringing home Luke Merrill.
